Good morning everyone! No, your eyes do not deceive you: it's me, making an actual post. I figured it was a good day for it, considering I woke up this morning to the news that Biden won the US elections. If that's not a good omen, I don't know what is.

Anyway, it's only six weeks until Christmas (how did that happen? I could've sworn it was, like, July yesterday) and that means it's Christmas card time! Or, you know, non-religious winter holiday card time! I can do both.

If you want a Christmas card, please comment here with your name and address. All comments are screened. (Please include your name and address in that comment even if I sent you a card last year. I might have your address on a scrap of paper somewhere, but it's doubtful I'll find it before it's already 2021, so commenting "me again" is just going to stress me out unnecessarily.)

If you want a card without a Christmas/religious theme, please let me know in your comment.

If you want my address to send me a card in return, let me know and I'll PM you!

comments

If you don't mention wanting a non-Christmas-y card, I will assume that you don't mind a card with Christmas-y things on it.

I won't promise to make a real update soon (I know myself too well for that), but you never know.

comments

I've challenged myself to read 50 books this year - the same number I went for in the last few years and usually reached (although sometimes just barely).

To make things a little more difficult this year - and to reduce my TBR pile - I've added a side challenge: I've picked 30 books I've had since last year (or way earlier in some cases) and I'm going to read at least half of them this year. I think I'd be unreasonable to challenge myself not to buy new books at all, so I'm going to say that for every book I cross off this list, I can buy a new one - kind of an incentive to read as many of them as I can, I guess.

( My TBR List for 2019: )

comments

Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I couldn't start listing all the things I love about Leverage, so let's look at another eternal fave of mine: Due South. I think I've mentioned this before, but simply hearing the intro is enough to make me smile.

Due South is something that makes me feel good. When I'm upset, I can watch an episode or two and my faith in humanity is restored, especially when it's one of the lighthearted episodes. But it's also a great show to watch when you're already in a good mood and want to keep it that way. Ray and Fraser's bickering is fun, the cases and characters are all kind of wacky and hilarious and the show masters the art of exaggerated stereotypes. It probably helps that the show doesn't take itself too seriously, so it's easy to switch off and relax while watching it. (Not that the show doesn't have serious moments and heavy episodes - it absolutely does - but there is generally that underlying sense of humour and the feeling that everything will be all right in the end.)

If you want to get a sense of the show, this video might help:

And then there's this playlist which starts with one of my favourite RayV bits ever (and wow, RayV is dressed in voilent 90s style). Oh, and check out this clip which shows you exactly what Fraser is like.

Day 4

Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them. Afterwards, leave a comment in this post with the equivalent of "I did it!"

Done!

comments

Unfortunately, Quinn isn't the only unexpected player around.
-> This one's a great Leverage casefic. It has cons, banter, lots of in-jokes and references to things from the show, teamwork, family feels and Quinn as a guest star.

Passing Notes by marswithghosts
Check Please, Jack/Bitty, teen.
Jack Zimmermann is charming, and Bitty enjoys the way he writes the B in Bittle. He knows he’s being stupid, but his life consists of seventh graders and baking pies; he’s allowed to have a little bit of a fantasy.
-> This was so sweet! Jack is a substitute teacher (and former professional hockey player) who takes over Bitty's class one day. And then again. And again. All the while he and Bitty are communicating through notes and baked goods.

Working Man by AKMars
Person of Interest, Fusco/OC (+ Finch/Reese), mature.
Sometimes life throws you one hell of a curve ball....and sometimes that's not a bad thing.
-> I feel like Fusco sometimes gets forgotten in fanfic, so here's a lovely story about Fusco finding something good.

Mistaken Identity by Silver Pard
Harry Potter, gen, whatever the K+ rating on ffnet means.
Will the real Boy Who Lived please stand up? Snape is convinced that the second Potter twin is the one to worry about. Too bad no one else seems to agree.
-> I love a good HP crack fic and this is one of them. Do check out the sequel: A Mistaken Sorting

Moving In (To Every Single Aspect of Danny’s Life, Including the Boring Bits like Dry-Cleaning) by westgirl
Hawaii Five-0, Steve/Danny, teen.
It felt wrong for Steve to sound unsure of his place in Danny’s life. His place in Danny’s life was at Danny’s side, driving him slowly insane. Steve should feel secure about that.
-> Because have you ever met two people more married?

comments

Just watched the Germany-Sweden game (World Cup, remember?) and holy crap! Such a tense game. So fast. So much better than Germany-Mexico. And 1:1 for the longest fucking time. I mean, seriously. Germany got a second goal in the LAST minute! Of extra time!

My brother and I were on the edge of our seats. So many amazing chances and none of them went in, and then they got that corner in the last minute and I said to my brother that with all the time play Sweden's been making, they actually deserved to get a smackdown at the last minute. And what happens?!

Fuck yeah.

(And they were one man down too.)

comments

I missed a few days, but that's the beauty of the Snowflake Challenge: there's no deadline so you can catch up to the current day (or just leave off days you don't like).

( Day 4 - 6 )

Day 7:

In your own space, create a love meme for yourself. Let people tell you how amazing and awesome and loveable you really are. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so. Surf the comments and find people to give love to.

All right, let me have it!
